Vehicles and aircraft, from the smallest commuter car to our space shuttles, are marvels of engineering. All of the tiny moving components, the contours and silhouettes, they fascinate me in a truly unique way.
Crisp details in sharp focus provide focal points for many of my compositions. I don’t shy away from monochromatic or reduced colors, and I try to capture a wide range in values between light and dark. Vibrant, rich colors effectively capture both paint and metal, and sharp contrast highlights texture and shape.
When taking pictures, I try to view my subject from multiple levels and angles, exploring which angle best captures it. I’ve found that ordinary objects seen from far below our normal eye level often become extraordinary. I believe that it’s important to take the time to stop, be fully present in the moment, and take in all the fascinating details around us. The simplest of things often have complex textures and patterns that we don’t see every day.
I’ve gained a much deeper appreciation for the world around me by looking at it through my camera.
