My passion as a photographer is to look at the world through a different perspective, especially with plants and animals. I capture the world from angles most people don’t normally see, and focus on details most people ignore. I love getting up close with macro photography. Many of my photographs have a narrow depth of field, with progressively blurred backgrounds.
Crisp details in sharp focus provide focal points for many of my compositions. I don’t shy away from monochromatic or reduced colors, and I try to capture a wide range in values between light and dark. Vibrant, rich colors show off the thriving life in the world around us, and sharp contrast highlights texture and shape.
When taking pictures, I try to view my subject from multiple levels and angles, exploring which angle best captures it. I’ve found that ordinary objects seen from far below our normal eye level often become extraordinary. I believe that it’s important to take the time to stop, be fully present in the moment, and take in all the fascinating details around us. The simplest of things often have complex textures and patterns that we don’t see every day.
I’ve gained a much deeper appreciation for nature and the world around me, by looking at it through my camera.
