About Rivette Sales & Service
Rivette Sales & Service isn’t actually a business or organization. It’s a family project and inside joke for a good friend of mine, and they asked for a way to make it “official” with a logo.
Design specifications
The client requested a logo with the following specifications:
- Art Deco style, or at least something derivative of/inspired by it
- Both a full logo and a monogram that are visually cohesive with each other
- Able to be embroidered
Solving the client’s need
Art Deco fonts tend to be complex, with multiple thin lines making up each letter. That doesn’t lend itself well to embroidery, so I chose to look for a font that was less delicate.
This led me to a font choice that, while slightly more modern in aesthetic than a true Art Deco style, would embroider much more effectively.
Rather than use simple text, I added a design element by bridging the base of the R with the base of the second T. Looking back, I would have rounded the bottom corner of the T and shaped the curve of the R a bit better. This was some of my earlier work, though, so I treat it as a valuable learning experience.
For the monogram, I used a similar motif, blending neighboring letters together to mimic the motif in the main logo. Again, I would have shaped the curve from the R to the S more naturally, but I think the ampersand into the S worked well in this case.
