About the Morgan 3 Wheeler
The Morgan 3 Wheeler is a quirky and unique car from a long pedigree of British sports cars. Also known as the Morgan Trike, it’s a holdout of classic British Motoring in a way nothing else is. Its “no frills, all thrills” attitude regularly compels drivers to take this throwback to turn-of-the-century motoring on long cross-country drives.
It barely fits one-and-a-half fully grown adults. You’re at risk of burning your hand on the exhaust pipe. It’s roughly a third the size of most sedans, and you sit well below the eye level of other drivers. It’s even taxed as a motorcycle in some areas, rather than an actual car. But despite all this, the Trike has a surprising charm that will catch you by surprise.
The latest addition to the lineup, the Morgan Super 3, fixes many of the troubles of the Trike. It also makes the silhouette even sleeker and cleaner, blending the classic and modern in a unique way.
The client’s request
The client asked for a set of options for a logo for a Morgan Trike Club they sought to establish. They wanted the logo to:
- Evoke the classic roots of the car
- Be instantly recognizable to enthusiasts
- Work well in all formats: digital, embroidery, print, and more
I chose to pull image references from the car itself, as well as the British history it’s so intertwined with.
- Subtly alters the Morgan badge on the nose of the 3 Wheeler. I kept most of the branding intact, complete with engine pistons and the 3 below the lettering.
- Evokes the V-twin engine configuration of the 3 Wheeler with a pair of cylinders surrounding the text.
- Mimics the classic RAF-inspired bullseye logo. This is often used to replace the O in “MOG,” which is a popular nickname for Morgan cars.
