About Faculty Voices
Faculty Voices was an initiative at the Naval Postgraduate School through the Teaching and Learning Commons. It gave faculty the opportunity to present workshops in their area of expertise to other faculty.
Frequent topics included new educational technology, using existing tools in new ways, and new lecture techniques. NPS’s shift to distance learning was significantly easier thanks to innovative faculty sharing their knowledge.
Solving the client’s need
The client provided a few requirements:
- Represent the audiovisual components of the workshops
- Indicate that live workshops were recorded for later viewing
- Use the existing NPS color palette
- Work for websites, HTML emails, and print publications
We tried a few design directions, as I took the client through four sets of concept revisions. I added the logos for other TLC initiatives to my design file, so that I could keep it visually cohesive.
For the final design, I used overlapping waveforms in the NPS color palette, as well as a video play button. The client liked the vertical bars of the other finalist, but we decided it said “podcast” more than “online webinar.”
The final logo package included a variant of the logo suited for dark backgrounds, as well as color codes for easy reference.
