Filament Painting
Filament painting is a 3D printing technique that uses the transparency of thin layers of plastic to blend colors together. The finished product is a lot like a lithophane, another popular style of 3D printing.
I use my regular stock of filament colors to create images of people, pets, still life, and other objects. The paintings have a lot of visual depth and texture, even though they’re less than 1/8″ or 3mm thick.
My filament paintings combine several skills I’ve developed over the years: vector painting, my work at Parker’s Crazy Cookies preparing 2D images for 3D production, and subtle digital retouching for READ @ your library posters. I’m uniquely positioned to produce high quality artwork, and as a result, high quality filament paintings.
